G-Force Camera App for Android

VelocityCam reads the phone's motion sensors while recording and displays a stabilized G-force ball next to GPS speed, pitch, and roll. The reading is calibrated to how the phone sits in its mount at the moment recording starts, so lateral and longitudinal force reflect the vehicle rather than the mount angle.

What the G-force readout shows

The force ball is smoothed for a mounted phone in a moving vehicle. It is designed to be readable at a glance on video, not to replace instrumentation.

Where it is useful

Getting a usable reading

    Mount rigidly

    A loose or springy mount adds vibration the sensors cannot tell apart from vehicle motion. Rigid mounting is the single biggest factor in reading quality.

    Let the app calibrate

    VelocityCam treats the mounted orientation at record start as the reference. Set the phone the way you'll leave it before you hit Record.

    Review and export

    Replay the session with the force ball in sync, then export with the HUD composited into the new file.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is phone-based G-force?

It is a consumer accelerometer in a phone. Vibration, mount flex, and temperature all affect it. Treat the readings as indicative, not laboratory-grade, certified, or usable as legal proof.

Why does my reading drift?

Usually the mount moved. Recalibrate live, or stop and restart the recording with the phone seated where you want it.

Does it need cell service?

No. G-force comes from on-device sensors, and speed comes from GPS satellites rather than the mobile network.

Is G-force available in the Handheld HUD?

No. Handheld recording is built around GPS-based performance metrics for use without a mount, so it does not display pitch, roll, or G-force. Those gauges are specific to mounted recording.
