Getting Started with VelocityCam on Android
This walkthrough covers everything from installing VelocityCam to reviewing and sharing your first recorded session, using the free Minimal HUD.
1. Install VelocityCam from Google Play
Search for VelocityCam on Google Play and install it on an Android 10 or newer phone with a rear camera and GPS. No account or sign-up is required to start recording.
2. Grant camera, location, and optional microphone permissions
On first launch, VelocityCam asks for camera and location permission — both are required, since recording needs the camera and telemetry needs GPS. Microphone permission is optional and only needed if you want audio in your recordings.
3. Wait for a GPS lock
VelocityCam blocks recording until GPS is locked, so speed is real from the very first frame. Point the phone toward open sky if the lock is taking a while, and make sure location permission is granted.
4. Choose the free Minimal HUD
Minimal is the free HUD profile — a clean, speed-focused overlay that is a good starting point for a first session. Pro unlocks additional HUD profiles and themes later, but Minimal is all you need to get going.
5. Record your first session
Mount the phone securely, or hold it steady, then tap Record to start immediately, or long-press for a three-second delayed start. The screen and orientation lock while recording, so accidental taps don't interrupt anything. Do not interact with the phone while operating a vehicle.
6. Review in the Library, then export and share
Stop recording when you're done, then open the session from the Library to watch it back with the HUD overlay in sync. When you're ready to share, export to Original, 9:16 Vertical, 1:1 Square, or 16:9 Landscape — the HUD is composited into a new file, and the original recording is left untouched.
- Free exports include the VelocityCam watermark
- Pro exports can remove the watermark or add custom text
- Use High export quality for archival, Balanced or Fast for social
FAQs
Do I need an account to use VelocityCam?
No. You can install and start recording without signing up for anything.
Do I need cell service for my first recording?
No. Installing the app needs a connection, but recording, playback, and export are all offline.
What if GPS won't lock indoors?
GPS needs a view of the sky, so a first test indoors may never lock. Try your first real recording outside or in a vehicle with a clear view upward.
Can I try Pro features before buying?
The free Minimal HUD and video export are enough to get a full first session. Pro is a one-time unlock for additional HUD profiles, watermark removal, and more.
