ATVs, UTVs, and side-by-sides put a phone through more vibration and articulation than almost any other mount. This page covers what that means specifically for machine-mounted recording: cage mounting, damping, pitch and roll on uneven ground, and keeping exports usable afterwards. What a machine-mounted session records
The same capture pipeline as any other VelocityCam session, but the readings that matter most on a side-by-side are pitch, roll, and how hard the chassis is working.

Cage-mounted riding
Riders use it to review a line through a rough section, show a passenger what the machine actually did, or keep a record of a trail day. Because Route Trace is drawn offline, it works where there is no cellular coverage at all.
Setting up on a UTV

Mount to the cage, not to plastic
Clamp to a rigid cage tube with a mount rated for off-road vibration. Body panels flex and add noise to both the video and the sensor readings.

Damp what you can, then calibrate
Vibration damping helps the camera as much as the sensors. Set the phone in its final position before you hit Record so calibration uses the real mount angle.

Protect it from dust and water
Dust, mud, and spray are hard on a phone. VelocityCam is software and offers no environmental protection — use appropriate housing and clean the lens between runs.

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from the off-road page?
The off-road page covers trail riding broadly, including snowmobiles and general terrain. This page focuses on cage-mounted ATV, UTV, and side-by-side setups where vibration and articulation are the dominant problems.
Will heavy vibration ruin the telemetry?
It degrades it. Rigid mounting plus damping gives the cleanest result; a rattling mount produces noisy G-force and softer video.
Is the phone protected from dust or water?
Not by VelocityCam. Use a housing appropriate for the conditions — the app cannot make a phone weatherproof.
